NEEDLE PHOBIA

NEEDLE PHOBIA

Are you afraid of needles?

One day in primary school we were told to get a vaccine against the flu, which was spreading like wildfire in my hometown. I was terrified at the news. Although I had got shots many times, this time my fear was extreme because my mother was not by my side. My mother is a doctor. She was away on a business trip. Before she left, she had instructed her colleagues to get me vaccinated in 4 days. When the moment came I faked illness and stayed in bed. But my trick was seen through by my father. He dragged me to the hospital.

At the doctor’s office, I saw needles flashing. I saw fluid spilling out of the syringe. “Oh, it is too big. She might kill me!” I shouted at the top of my lungs. I pulled on my clothes and rushed out. The nurse was caught off guard. As I was running along, I stumbled over a step and fell down the stairs. I got my elbow broken. I cried in pain. Finding me lying on the stairs, a nurse helped me up to my feet and asked what had happened. I told her I had broken my elbow. She thought it was a joke but still she led me to the X-ray room. It turned out that I had exactly injured my elbow. Right at the hospital my elbow was fixed and I ended up in plaster. Two weeks later, the flu, which the vaccine should have protected me against, got me. Then I infected my mother.

What a stupid thing I had done!
