GRAN WOKE UP

On Sunday morning Mother took me to the hospital to visit my gran. She sank into a coma in April. I have been to see her six times since then.

Since Gran woke up, she has been improving little by little. She can recognise people now. When she fell into a coma, according to the doctors, the chance was slim that she would regain her consciousness. Luckily there came a day when she opened her eyes and smiled.

When I walked into the ward, she smiled at me. After I took off my glasses, she recognised me and burst into tears.

Gran has been moved from the original ward to the current rehab floor. She can sit back on a stool. Although she still cannot talk, she is able to make facial expressions.

My aunt, who has been caring for her, came to comfort her when she heard Gran crying like a child. My aunt tried to calm down Gran. After a while, she became quiet and stared at me.

Gran is 78 this year. I am afraid that she might think she has become a burden on the family. I would tell Gran that whatever difficulties we might meet, as long as there is a glimmer of hope, we will never give up on her. I hope that she can keep making progress until I have graduated from high school. Then I could take time to share my interesting life stories with her, just like she related to me when I was a child.

I will love Gran forever.
