MY FRIEND AND HIS FATHER

Shengliver’s Note: All happy families resemble one another; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

One of my friends came and stayed with me on a Saturday night about two weeks ago. Back in his own home, he had been in conflict with his father. His father had ordered him to get out. Not only that, the father had thrown a drinking glass at him, cutting his arm. When my friend got to my home, his arm was bleeding badly. I could not imagine why his father had been so fierce.

My friend was crying in my room for half an hour but I had no idea what to do. There was no way I could figure out why a father should have done such a thing to his own son. My friend told me that he got home around 10 o’clock. At the time his father had been drinking. Still his father’s behaviour was beyond me.

In my family, my sister and I always try to wheedle our father into buying us what we like after he is drunk. Although the next day Father always forgets what was promised, he never abuses me after he gets drunk.

I wish my friend could be reconciled with his father. I also wish his father would feel ashamed of his behaviour.
