PIPI

As we know, pets have been human companions for ages. I love pets too, especially canines.

When I was 7, I got a little brown puppy. It is a common breed that can be found on almost every street in your neighbourhood. However, for a little kid, it was a big surprise because I had always wanted a pet. My dream came true when the creature was brought home by my parents. I called it Pipi.

Soon after Pipi joined us, we moved to a new neighbourhood. After we left home for work or school during the day, Pipi was left behind alone. Without doubt, when we left, our home became Pipi’s world, where he could play to his heart’s content. Sometimes at school I wondered what Pipi was up to back home.

One morning I came back to get some stationery. To my shock, I found Pipi had made a mess on the carpet. Pipi was sitting there wagging his tail as if nothing had happened. I got so angry that I wanted to beat him. I tried to catch Pipi but he was so fast that I could not lay my hands on him. We ended up with a home in upheaval.

After I told my parents about Pipi’s misbehaviour, he was sent away to my grandparents’. I felt very regretful after Pipi left us.

Then I could only see Pipi when I visited my grandparents. On those visits, as soon as the front door opened, Pipi rushed toward me. He merrily fawned over me, sniffed at me and gambolled. During the Spring Festival, he could also follow my grandparents to my home. In the evening, when the family were watching TV, Pipi would come and lie down at my feet so that he could enjoy my petting. At times he would run after his own tail but never could he seize it. The little guy gave us tons of laughter.

One day, however, my mother announced that Pipi was lost when my grandpa was walking him one day. It made me very sad, but I had no choice but to accept it.

As time went by, I gradually stopped feeling sad, but I still miss the time with Pipi. And I often think of him. Pipi might have been adopted by some kind guy, and very likely he has had a lot of children now. Or my grandpa might have sold Pipi instead of losing him because Pipi often annoyed him. Wherever Pipi might be now, the time we shared occupies a special place in my memory.
