LOVE HURTS

Shengliver’s Note: This teen writer sounds sophisticated as far as romance is concerned.

Today my best friend Jimmy cried, not for me but for a girl.

I had never seen him so much hurt. When I asked him, “Hey, guy. What’s up?” he looked at me, silent, with a blank expression. Normally it is impossible for him not to banter with me when we are together. But today he just stayed silent.

A few minutes later, Jimmy told me the truth. “She told me she doesn’t like me,” he said. I was shocked, because only last week did Amy confess that she liked my friend very much. I asked, “Did she say anything else?”

“She said she did not want to distract me from schoolwork,” he replied. “But I really like her. What should I do?”

I was amused, wondering how my friend could have become so silly overnight. I tried to cheer him up. I said, “Did Amy really mean it when she said she liked you last week? Are you sure that you won her heart? Guy, don’t be so fragile. Nobody can drag you down but yourself. Forget about her and study harder.”

My words worked in a way. “Yeah,” Jimmy seemed to agree. “I think everything will be better tomorrow.” Still with a remote expression, he went back to his classroom.

Love is magical. It can make you feel as if the whole world were at your feet. Meanwhile it can break your heart easily. Someone asked me, “Which one would you go for, the one you like or the one who likes you?” I answered, “Neither.”

Love takes two to happen. If you really like a girl, try your best to let her like you too. If she is not willing, stop it. Remember, love is a dangerous game. Once it stops, it hurts.

I am still concerned about Jimmy although optimism is in his genes. As he said, everything will turn out better tomorrow, hopefully. Time is the best cure.
