As you know, you do not always know what is on other people’s minds, so there is often a surprise out there in store for you.
In our school, we need to run for meals, or we may end up with an empty stomach. Luckily, I go home for lunch, but for supper, all students have to go to the canteen.
The other day, when I arrived at the canteen, it was already packed. After I got a bowl of noodles, I looked for a place to sit. It being the rush hour, almost all the seats had been taken. Finally, I found a free seat next to a girl.
The girl had short hair, with a pair of glasses on. Her hair was so short that you might take her for a boy. After I sat down, she became a bit uneasy. Judging from her expression, she might want to ask me for a favour. After some hesitation, she called me tentatively, not for help though. She told me that there was some spillage on the seat and that she had not known I would take it.
The kind reminder lifted my spirits in the noisy hall. We were total strangers. It was not her duty to remind me of it. Smiling at her, I said, “Oh, it is not a big deal. Let me change for a new one. Thanks.”
As I was dining at the new seat, I felt someone approaching me and putting a drink on the table. I thought that it might be one of my friends, but when I looked up, I saw the face of the very short-haired girl who had just done me a good turn. She said, “It is for you. Hard to get one now.” Before I could say thanks, she went away.
Now I believe that the students in our school have not only the ability to run for meals but also beautiful hearts.
