Dad’s Gift

Last weekend, I had two days off. My mother’s best friend invited us over for a barbecue.

In order to thank the lady for the meal, we brought Mum’s friend a bouquet of flowers and some of Mum’s homemade soap as gifts. She was very pleased with them.

The barbecue was heavenly. It was so tasty that we gorged ourselves on it. When the dessert was served, therefore, none of us had any appetite for it. The dessert was a cheese cake and a pie. Saying that she was on a diet, the hostess asked us to take both the cheesecake and the pie home. If we wanted, she said, we could leave her just a small slice of each.

On the way home, we saw several electricians from City Power still working on some faulty lines, which had impacted the neighbouring communities. Father pulled over and got out. He went over and gifted the cheesecake to the workers, expressing to them his appreciation of their hard work contributed throughout the weekend. Father’s generosity energised the hardworking good people, who were covered in sweat and dirt.

Back at the wheel in the car, Father was in a merry mood, humming an interesting tune as he was driving along.

What a great weekend!
