Shengliver’s Note: This teen writer, Zechen, has a heart of gold. Apart from generosity, the teen has what it takes to be an inspirational speaker one day.
When I finished primary school, I went further to No 5 Middle School. Because of my poor exam results, I was placed in a class that was way below average academically. Through the three years of middle school, though, I kept working hard until I ranked 20th of all the 680 students of our grade in the final exam. My ultimate accomplishment at the end of middle school earned me a place in this celebrated high school.
During the three years, a lot of my classmates did not put their hearts into the lessons for various reasons. Some rebelled against their parents, who were entangled in a divorce fight. Some made some efforts but achieved little, so they stopped trying. Some were hopelessly hooked on gaming. They all had something in their lives that hurt them, but most of the teachers were unaware of it. As a result, they had no motivation to put up a good fight.
When I became conscious of the mire that my classmates were stuck in, I tried to uplift their spirits. At times, I challenged them with some difficult questions. Other times, I accompanied them to some helpful teacher for advice. They all made progress because of the small part I had played. Their advances in attitudes and grades gave me a strong sense of fulfilment.
This experience of mine has helped me to find my future vocation. I aspire to be a teacher who can help his students recover their confidence. I think I will make it in time.
