Why Was I Transferred Here?

Shengliver’s Note: The father died of a heart attack.

Shengliver, you asked me why I was transferred from Shandong to YYHS, Hubei. Let me tell you why. I moved to the new province here because a misfortune had struck my family back in my hometown.

One weekend last year I was home from school. I was fast asleep during the night when I was roused by Mother. She was pounding my door like crazy, crying, “Help! Help! What’s the matter with your dad?”

I shot up from bed in alarm and went to their room. I saw Dad’s eyes dead shut and his breathing laboured. My dad must be ill! Without delay, I dialled 120 and got some neighbours up for help. Unfortunately, it took ages for the ambulance to come to our village. My dad passed away at the local hospital that very night. My mother, my elder sister, and I couldn’t have been sadder.

After the funeral, my elder sister and my cousin did not want Mother and me to live in the gloomy place any longer. If I went back to school, Mother would be left all alone in the house. Therefore, they had me transferred from the high school in my hometown to Shiyan, where they are employed.

I love my father and could not miss him more, but in no way can I let him know it.
