When I was a primary school pupil, I had a best friend. It was my pet dog Xiaobai. How we met was quite unexpected.
It was a wet day. On my way home, I found something stirring in the grass by the road. I went over and pushed aside the vegetation. Oh, a cute puppy greeted my eye. I decided to take it home. It seemed that the dog was starving. Shivering in the grass, it would not stand up. I went to a store and bought a sausage.

I tore open the package and broke the sausage into bite-sized pieces. When I put a morsel to the wretched creature, it ate it up and wagged its tail at me. Then I walked in front with sausage in my hand. This time it followed me, shakily though.
When I got home with the puppy at my heels, Mother was surprised. She was opposed to me keeping the dog inside the house, so I had to build a kennel out of some cardboard for the dog out in the yard. The canine seemed very happy, wagging its tail all the time. I gave it a name, Xiaobai.
Xiaobai was a picture of filth when it came to my home. I gave it a bath. After being washed, it shook the water off. Standing next to it, I had water splashed all over me as a result.
After that, I fed Xiaobai and played with it every day. Whenever I came home from school, it was waiting for me right there at the gate, wagging its tail merrily.
One day Xiaobai disappeared. I could not find him anywhere. Many days lapsed but it still did not come back. Had it been killed? Had it been stolen? No one knew.
I still hope Xiaobai and I are reunited one day.
