Grandad’s Dog

In the countryside almost every farmer family keeps a guard dog. Most families do not give a name to their four-footed servant. Even though nameless, the dogs still form a special bond with their masters.

Grandad had a nameless dog too. It was a she-dog. All the family members liked the dog very much. Whenever we went to visit Grandad and Grandma, she would get very excited and wag her tail constantly.

Last month on the visit to Grandad, I did not find the dog anywhere. Sad and surprised, I asked Grandad where she was. Grandad said he did not know either.

According to Grandad, the dog had been hurt in the leg in a way Grandad did not know. She became weaker and weaker. Grandad had no way to cure her. The other day with the dog around, Grandad told her that he could not help her, adding that she could go anywhere she wanted.

The next day the dog disappeared. No one in the village knew where she had gone.

Grandad’s narration amazed me. It seems that the dog was able to get his message. It was incredible but it did happen. Was it a coincidence?

The understanding between Grandad and his dog moved me. So, if you have a pet, love it.
