Shengliver’s Note: Most of her classmates were sleeping late on the weekend morning. The teen writer, Yaxue, could have lain in on Sunday morning, too.
Last Sunday saw a bumpy start.
Because I was to participate in a provincial biology contest on Sunday morning, I pulled myself out of bed at 7.30. My contest would not start until 9, so I decided to take advantage of the interval to do some homework in the reading room. When I was approaching the teaching building, it occurred to me that I had left behind my physics book back in my dorm. Therefore, I turned around and started to backtrack.
Passing the shop, I dropped in and wanted to buy something. I unzipped my rucksack to get my purse, only to find my physics book lying right in there at the bottom. I could have kicked myself at the moment for the folly.

After shopping, I made a beeline for the reading room. In front of the library, I bumped into one of my friends, Freda. Together, we rushed over. At the entrance, we were greeted by a notice posted there, which said that the reading room was closed for the day because the graduating students would be taking their oral English test there.
Upset, Freda and I were at a loss where to turn next to get our homework done. At this moment an upperclassman waiting there suggested that we head to the Delicious Food City at SKYL Mall located across Beijing Road from YYHS, where free tables and seats are normally available around this hour. She thought we could process our work there.
Following the tip, we crossed the street and walked over into the Delicious Food City. To our exasperation, no sooner had we stepped in than we were met by hordes of customers at the place. Because it was Sunday morning, a lot of families were dining there. So noisy and crowded was the environment that there was simply no way we could settle down to work.
“It’s so frustrating, Yaxue. Anyway,” My friend Freda sighed, “we may as well take the time to have our breakfast here.” I agreed. After breakfast, I found it was fast approaching 9. I rushed back right away to the campus for the contest.
Oh, how terrible a beginning I got to the day, Shengliver!
