September 10 is Chinese Teachers’ Day.
More than two weeks before this year’s Teachers’ Day, we started to discuss what we could do for our hard-working teachers and how we should give thanks to them. After comparing notes, we decided to have a class meeting exclusively for our teachers, where we would present them with gifts suited to their different tastes.
First, we recorded videos on a cam in the PE class, in which we expressed gratitude to the teachers. Second, some classmates summed up the teachers’ pet phrases and organised them in a PPT presentation. Then Seiky Huang adapted a song for the special occasion. Everything seemed to be running smoothly. Then on Sunday afternoon, the day before our class meeting, our precious video was lost for no reason at all.
It meant that we must do every scene all over again. With merely 24 hours available, we all felt the pressure. Luckily, we finally finished every detail perfect. I was moved when each of us was contributing the best bit to the effort. It was an exhilarating experience.
At the celebration held in the classroom, the surprise we prepared simply blew the teachers away. Their reactions told everything: it was a success. And the activity added to our bond.
