LOVE’S WORK ON GRADES

Two months ago, a fresh pair of sweethearts appeared in our class. It was no surprise after all, because it is no secret that they have been classmates since kindergarten. But what surprised us was that Mr Zou, our maths master, should have noticed love’s work on grades. Our maths teacher, as you know, is good at solving academic problems, nothing else.

Mr Zou often beat Guangming in class when he found him making some foolish mistakes, which had never happened before. In one class, Mr Zou blurted, “Is it your deskmate that has made you so bird-brained?” Mr Zou smirked a dirty smirk at Guangming as if he had already found out the secret. We could not have admired Mr Zou more for his sharp eyes.

Guangming’s miserable performance in this exam caught our class director’s eye, too. The wise man concluded that the boy must have faltered under the girl’s charm.

What puzzles us is that when Kang was head over heels in love, he became so smart that he came out first in a monthly. The feat glamorised the boy so much that his sweetheart came to date him even at recess.

It is hard to tell about love’s influence on grades. Is it positive or negative? As the saying goes, if you love too much, you will fall too deep. I will leave the judgement to you, my reader.
