AN HONEST KID

One day it was raining cats and dogs, but I had to get my hair cut. I got changed and put a twenty-yuan banknote in my pocket before I ventured out with an umbrella.

On my arrival at the barber’s I found three customers already in the queue. So I seated myself on the sofa and took out my phone to kill the time. About half an hour later, it was my turn.

After the job was done, I reached into my pocket to get the pay. To my embarrassment, the banknote was no longer there. I could not help exclaiming, “Where on earth is my money?” A bit annoyed the barber kept silent. I was at a loss as to what to do at the moment. I looked around the shop but without luck. Just at this moment a kid came up and asked me, “Is this your money, brother?” Examining the banknote in his hand I found it was mine. The kid explained that he had found the banknote on the sofa a moment before. Oh my God, it must have slipped out of my pocket when I was taking out the phone there.

After I paid the barber, I got the change. It was 5 yuan. I wanted to give it to the kid to show my appreciation for his kindness, but he refused it.

Even today I still remember what the kid looks like.
