3 Meals for 1

If you are ill and someone cares about you, you will feel warm.

One morning last week I was suffering from a persistent stomach-ache. For breakfast I ate very little. I was sick the entire morning. During the longer break, I went to the clinic and got some pills for the complaint. So uncomfortable and drowsy did I feel that I did not want to stir a bit. As soon as the last morning class ended, my classmates rushed to the canteen. My desk mate, who saw me slumped all over the desk, the picture of misery, kindly reminded me it was lunchtime. I said I had no appetite.

About ten minutes later, one of my classmates came back from the canteen, with a hamburger for me. Unwell, I did not even have the strength to acknowledge it and continued to sleep. Pretty soon another classmate returned with a hamburger for me. That was not the end. A third classmate, considering my weak stomach, brought me a cup of porridge from the canteen. They all tried to persuade me to eat some, but I was simply too nauseous to stomach any food.

In the afternoon when I woke up, the three lunches on my desk greeted my eye, reminding me of my mates’ acts of kindness. I was so moved. I had not asked any of them to help. Yet I ended up with 3 meals for 1.

Unluckily in the evening I started to run a fever, so I had no alternative but to go to the community clinic across from the campus school for treatment. A couple of my classmates volunteered to accompany me on the trip.

Looking back, I am touched by their care and consideration. Having shaken off the condition, I still appreciate all the generosity lavished on me by my dear classmates. Thanks so much.
